Sample Band 9 Answers:
The diagram illustrates the stages in the life of the salmon, from birth to maturity.
It is obvious that the salmon goes through six primary phases as it grows from an egg to an adult salmon. Additionally, we can observe that salmon spend time in three different places throughout their life cycle, travelling from a river to an estuary to the ocean and back again.
The rivers where adult fish lay their eggs and nurture them are where salmon begin their lives. Young salmon are raised in freshwater environments for the remainder of their life after emerging from eggs. The fish eventually swim downstream to river estuaries to continue their raising at some point in their growth.
The growing salmon go to the ocean six months after the estuary rearing stage ends, where they eventually reach adulthood. The life cycle then restarts when the adult fish return upstream to the river’s spawning sites to breed and lay their eggs.
