Sample Band 6 Answer
Whenever a person is searching for a place to live, he is often faced with the choice of living in a house or an apartment. Both of these accommodations have its own merits and demerits, but my opinion is that living in a house have more advantages than disadvantages.
Among few disadvantages, we can first discuss the financial aspect. Living in a house, by purchasing or renting, is always much more expensive than an apartment. For example, as per a study conducted by Times of India, the new generation is preferring apartments over houses mainly due to cost involved. Also there is a growing trend of nuclear families, who prefer smaller apartments over large houses.
However, advantages of a house outweigh the disadvantages. If a person is faced with dilemma of purchasing house or apartment, he should always choose house due to ownership of land. To further elaborate, a person gets the advantage of own land with a house, which can be used for car parking or small part of it can be converted into a private garden. Another clear advantage is the availability of more space in a house. In India, people still prefer to live with parents and hence, houses are given priority over a flat. Moreover, a person can organise personal events at his house itself. For example, I recently went to a birthday party which was organised at my cousins house and they were able to avoid extra cost of arranging a hotel because of their own house.
In conclusion, while several people may prioritise an apartment, I believe that living in a house is more advantageous due to benefits of land ownership and availability of more space.

I suppose this is GT. TA – I suppose your focus is on the situation in India but you need to make this absolutely clear. But you deal with the question well// CC – the writing is logical but I’m going to be strict as there is no use of cohesion between sentences. The use of “he” is not acceptable. Are males the only people who buy.rent accommodation?// LR – good. But I don’t see any less common (but appropriate) language//G- as with CC, I’m going to be strict. The overuse of present continuous tense in para 2 is very “Indian” and wrong. There are also noticeable errors in articles, countable & uncountable nouns *accommodations!) and punctuation (cousin’s) with the result that the majority of sentences contain a error. Could you use a participle clause or conditional sentence?
So, I’d say:
//TA – 7 (8 if you helped the reader a little more)
// CC – 6 (but in my heart I’d like to give 7)
// LR – 7
// G – 6 (but 7 is a strong possibility)
//Overall = 6.5. You might get 7.0 but I feel the essay is ‘borderline’ and I want you to take care. On the other hand, this is an easy question which doesn’t encourage you to push yourself.
