Sample Band 7 Answer
Huge range of the study resources are available nowadays and their right selection is crucial in the effective learning of students. While I agree that the text books can never be substituted by the modern technology, as course books are authentic (tell me comma will come or full stop) However, I also believe that the Internet has introduced entirely different learning techniques for students ,which has made them independent and self -sufficient more than ever before.
The course books are developed by the pedagogical experts and are designed in a way to be incorporated into the school syllabus. This makes the text books an integral part of the school curriculum, which enables them to access the performance of students in the form of the academic achievements and continuous assessments, leading to the progression of students towards further and higher education. Moreover, unlike the modern technology, the school books are an authentic source of information that can be relied on with the closed eyes. For instance, if hundreds of websites are available to a student for a single topic , he will never be able to differentiate which one of them is genuine.
However, on the other hand, the Internet has revolutionized the traditional teacher-led system in an entirely modern way. Leaving guided learning process behind , the Internet has not only helped students in the distance learning , but also helped them in data gathering via the self –study modules . To illustrate, browsing or surfing sites online like google , you tube which has enabled the young learners to explore any topic just by clicking a button while sitting at home. In addition, in terms of the supplementing knowledge and making the young learners more autonomous, the role of the internet is unrivalled. Therefore, if internet was not there, neither the independant research methodologies nor the study skills would have been reinvigorated.
To conclude, although the internet has provided a new direction to the rote learning process and given an autonomy to pupils, I believe that the text books are still a fundamental part of the school studies and the reliable sources of information . Because of the quality and depth of material , an absolute trust on the Internet will take time to develop.

There is an obvious problem with articles in the introduction, (“However” begins a sentence). TA – you need a thesis statement in the intro because para 2 seems to be a ‘mini-essay’ on the value of textbooks rather than a discussion of the question. And it’s the same situation in para 3. I have to search for a comparison between textbooks & internet resources. The final sentence of the conclusion introduces a new aspect of the topic. I have a problem with “young learners” because, for me as a teacher, that could be a child between the ages of 7 to 15. You don’t tell me what a young learner is. In fact, you use a number of specialist terms related to education that have a specific meaning but I am not confident you use them in the same way as I do. Overall, your answer is too general to help me// CC – I’m tempted to be tough on you for beginning a sentence with “Because” as it highlights the other ‘basic’ conjunctions you rely on. Yet there is some good use of cohesive features.(Why is the student “he”?)// LR – you throw is every imaginable educational term, including “rote learning”, which does not appear to have any relevance to the question and is not elaborated on// G – you display your skill by correctly using a mixed conditional sentence and I can only see one slip (in the introduction) but the overuse of “the” is noticeable
So, I’d say:
//TA – 6 (others might say 7 or 8 but I can’t see you developing or ‘weaving’ an argument and the whole essay is rather general. The conclusion does more harm than good)
// CC – 7 (closer to 6 than 8)//LR – 8 ( I don’t feel you use the vocabulary skillfully enough)
// G – 7 (this may seem very unfair but I feel the way you use articles is ‘unnatural’)
//Overall = 7.0. ( I suspect there are others who will estimate 7.5 or possible higher, But I can see basic flaws that could ‘trip you up’ so you need to address them if there is time before your exam).
