Sample Band 7 Answer

Happiness is the key factor for everyone’s stable life. It means a lot for an individual to be happy in different ages of his or her life. It is a strength for survival in ups and downs of life. It is an intangible feeling which comes with the attachment of particular things or individuals.

It is a very subjective matter to define one’s happiness because it varies from person to person in his or her life. For instance, a mother’s happiness remains in the achievement of her children success, a university student is looking for his or her happiness in higher grades, a doctor gets his happiness on successful completion of the critical operation, a batsman looks for his happiness in his successful maiden century. Therefore, it is not measureable thing on any stage of life but it has a long lasting impact on an individual’s memory.

There are numerous factors which lead to happiness, such as positive thinking in every odd situation will keep an individual happy. Helping people in need could also lead to achieve happiness. Avoidance of hatred and grudges could also result in happiness such as tolerance at one’s misbehavior and forgiveness on their wrongdoings.

To conclude, happiness is vital for every living individual in this world. It becomes strength and success for those who seek happiness around there. Happy individuals tend to be healthier and live longer than an unhappy person.

Examiner Feedback

TA – a thesis statement would help the reader (but is not compulsory). This is an ‘old style’ question and is unlikely to appear in a current exam. You answer the question but para 3 is not developed enough – where are the ‘reasons’?// CC – you write a series of statements that are not all logically connected. But thankfully you don’t give too many points// LR – because you do not develop an argument you don’t use carrier nouns but collocation is good// LR – there are too many missing articles for the errors to be regarded as slips. There are 2 incorrect dependent prepositions

So, I’d say:
//TA – 7 (closer to 6 than 7)
// CC – 7 (limited because of the list of sentences in the introduction)
// LR – 8
// G – 7
//Overall = 7.0. I feel you should ‘score’ higher with a more ‘orthodox’ question.
