Sample Band 7 Answer

On the one hand, it might be said that if museums are free to visit for all people irrespective of their social status, age or nationality, the number of visitors will upsurge dramatically.

As a result, people will start to take a large interest in the culture and history of a country by visiting museums be it a national or international museum. And this will lead to a great improvement in people’s knowledge of history, culture and ethnics. Furthermore, it can surely be said that people can look at the unique artefacts or historical paintings to understand their mysteriousness. As it is not secret, there are some hugely popular paintings which require long hours to be fathomed. Finally, family members can create a strong bounding by exploring museums for free which otherwise could be ridiculously expensive for an extended family.

Conversely, the problem with allowed free entrance to museums is that the safety of artefacts will be under question as more people go to museums, it might affect the atmosphere of the artefacts negatively and even they might be damaged by hordes of people who are not aware of the rules of museums. For example, British museums have found that the stone of “Rosetta” is being affected by the light of cameras as visitors capture its photo. It might also be said that, national economy of a country will suffer, if this system is going to be implemented. As it is by no means clear that money taken from visitors is used for restoration of artefacts and the museum itself and thus it will be on the shoulders of the government to provide museum with the amount of money.

Overall, it appears that , while visitors benefit from this newly emerging trend it is obvious that it will be more of a burden for government . Implementing this system is hugely beneficial for improving public people’s knowledge about history and culture.

A satisfactory introduction. But is the detail in the opening sentence necessary? TA – your arguments are strong but the conclusion seems ‘rushed’ and your personal opinion. I fact, I find it difficult to determine your stance. And you don;t really touch on the “whatever the visitor’s age, income or nationality” aspect of the question// CC – despite the length of the essay, you keep control of the writing. , I prefer para 3 to para 2, But if you begin a sentence with “And”, it will be difficult to get a high band. Overall, CC is rather “hit and miss”// :LR – much of the use & choice of vocabulary is excellent but there are also ‘eccentric’ chunks, like in the conclusion where you ‘overreach’ yourself. With a little more care, a really high band is a possibility//G – you certainly use a range of grammar patterns and write in a formal style (although in places it feels a bit “nineteenth century” in style, It’s the choice of vocabulary that makes the writing appear ‘clumsy’, not grammar errors (eg ” require long hours to be fathomed. “/” take a large interest in”). i have to penalise the introduction
So, I’d say (but I feel I;m being strict in some areas):
//TA – 6
//CC – 6 (very close to 7)
// LR – 7
//G – 8 (a whisker away from 9)
//Overall = 7.0 (if TA or CC were 7. the overall band would still be 7.0).
