Some people say that in all levels of education, from primary schools to universities, too much time is spent on learning facts and not enough on learning practical skills.
Do you agree or disagree?
Include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience to back up your answer.

Sample Band 7 Answer
It is argued that the curriculum of formal education system is based more on theoretical aspects of knowledge than focusing of skills that require in practical life. In my opinion, I disagree with the statement. In this essay, I am going to examine some of the key aspects pertaining to the statement and try to explain my position about the matter.
The main objective of education, in my views, is to create good citizens who will contribute to the advancement of the society as well as develop him of herself. Our education system at the primary and high school level provide the students with basic knowledge base like science, math, history etcetera. These are basically abstract, with limited practical activities. Besides, students get involved with applied form of knowledge at the university level by doing research or assignments. Besides, technical education like medical or engineering studies involved a lot of practices as it require. It is clear that education system take the students into the different stages of knowledge ranging from abstract to practical form. Moreover, vocational education provides the students technical knowledge which are more practical skills based. This corroborates the position that education system is designed for the best way to meet the needs of the society.
On the other hand, people who think that education is burdened with unnecessary facts and figures argue that students spend too much time dealing with abstract things which are of no use in practical life. Instead, they should in their daily lives.
In conclusion, it cannot be ignored that experience and knowledge that the human race have created so far are passed through education from one generation to another generation for this, it must contain abstract facts, theories and figures.

You take the correct approach in the introduction. TA – “our education system” So you are writing about the education system of the reader’s country? In that case, I shall judge every comment you make in relation to the UK education system. Is that what you what me to do? In para 2 how is it possible to relate primary education with training to be a doctor? They don’t belong in the same paragraph. There is a lack of direction in para 2. Is para 3 a ‘paragraph’ or a ‘comment’? Where are the ‘reasons’ & ‘ relevant examples’ in para 3 that Task 2 always asks for?// CC – this is easy to assess as the imbalance of paragraphs means paragraphing cannot be regarded as logical// LR – there is lots of collocation and some less common, but relevant, vocabulary too// G – you mainly write ‘statements’ so the range of grammar structures is quite limited. But there are also a number of minor slips with articles. countable/uncountable nouns & verb endings
So, I’d say:
//TA – 6 (because of the question)
// CC – 6 (partly because of the question)
// LR – 8 (take out “things” and I’d consider 9)
// G – 7
//Overall =7.0 (I feel the question prevents you from showing your true potential).
